Delve: While you are casting Ethereal Forager, you may exile cards from your graveyard. Each card you exile reduces the generic portion of the mana cost by {1} . You can’t exile cards to pay colored mana requirements, and you can’t exile more cards than the total generic mana required. Delve doesn’t change the card’s mana value or its printed cost; it only helps pay the cost as you cast it. Example: if Ethereal Forager’s cost includes generic mana, you can exile up to that many cards to cover that generic part. The cards you exile this way become associated with this specific cast of Ethereal Forager (they are considered ‘exiled with’ this creature). Flying: the creature can only be blocked by creatures with flying or reach. Attack trigger: Whenever Ethereal Forager attacks, its triggered ability lets you return an instant or sorcery card that was exiled with Ethereal Forager’s delve effect to its owner’s hand. You may choose not to return a card. The returned card goes to its owner’s hand (not cast). After the triggered ability resolves, players get priority before blockers are declared, so the owner could cast the returned instant or sorcery then if it’s legal. If Ethereal Forager leaves the battlefield after its triggered ability goes on the stack, the ability still can find and return cards that were exiled with its delve ability.

You can exile cards to pay only for generic mana, and you can’t exile more cards than the generic mana requirement of a spell with delve. For example, you can’t exile more than seven cards from your graveyard to cast Treasure Cruise unless an effect has increased its cost.

Delve doesn’t change a spell’s mana cost or mana value. For example, Treasure Cruise’s mana value is 8 even if you exiled three cards to cast it.

Because delve isn’t an alternative cost, it can be used in conjunction with alternative costs, such as flashback. It can also be used to pay for additional costs that include generic mana.

After Ethereal Forager’s triggered ability resolves, players will have priority to cast spells (such as the card you returned to your hand, if it’s legal to do so) before blockers are declared.

If Ethereal Forager leaves the battlefield while its triggered ability is on the stack, that ability can still find the cards exiled with Ethereal Forager’s delve ability.
