Increment triggers whenever you cast a spell if the total mana you spent to cast that spell is greater than either this creature's power or its toughness at the time of checking.
If the increment trigger is still on the stack when it resolves, the comparison is made again against the creature's current power and toughness; if the mana paid is greater than either current stat, put a +1/+1 counter on Ambitious Augmenter.
If Ambitious Augmenter is not a creature when an increment trigger would trigger, the trigger does not occur. If it stops being a creature before an already-triggered increment resolves, that trigger does nothing.
When Ambitious Augmenter dies, if it had one or more counters on it as it was in the graveyard, you create a 0/0 green and blue Fractal creature token, then put the same kinds and numbers of counters that were on Ambitious Augmenter onto that token.
If multiple tokens are created by the death ability (for example by Anointed Procession), put Ambitious Augmenter’s counters on each of those tokens.
You do not move counters from Ambitious Augmenter; you put new counters of the same kinds and amounts onto the token(s). That includes +1/+1 counters, -1/-1 counters, and any other counters that were on Ambitious Augmenter when it died.
If Ambitious Augmenter had enough -1/-1 counters when it died that the token would receive an equal number of -1/-1 counters and die immediately, that can happen — the token can die from receiving those counters.
The increment ability resolves before the spell that caused it to trigger resolves. It will resolve even if that spell is later countered or removed from the stack.

When comparing the mana spent to the creature's stats as the increment ability resolves, it's possible that the stat that is less than the mana spent changes from power to toughness or vice versa. For example, say you control a 1/3 creature with increment and you pay two mana to cast a spell. Since the amount of mana you spent is greater than the creature's power, increment will trigger. While the increment ability is on the stack, an effect gives the creature with increment +2/-2, making it a 3/1. When the increment ability resolves, the creature will still get a +1/+1 counter since the amount of mana you spent is greater than that creature's toughness.

An increment ability will only trigger if the permanent it's on is a creature. Similarly, if the permanent is no longer a creature when its increment ability resolves, the ability won't do anything.

If more than one token is created by Ambitious Augmenter’s last ability (because of the effect of a card like Anointed Procession, for example), put Ambitious Augmenter’s counters on each of those tokens.
